Sports Premium

Primary PE and Sport Premium

The Government provides funding for primary schools to spend on additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of physical education (PE), physical activity and sport they offer.

Modbury Primary School recognises the contribution of PE to the health and wellbeing of all our children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, learning attitudes and academic achievement.

There are 5 key indicators that Modbury Primary School  will be working on.

  • the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity –(the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school)
  • the profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
  • increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  • increased participation in competitive spor

The Primary PE and Sport Premium enables us to extend our provision by employing PE coaches to support teachers with their professional development within PE. We also utilise sports professionals both during and after the end of the school day, enhancing our extracurricular PE opportunities. We host and enter competitive sports tournaments.
