Forest School

We are very pleased to be able to offer all of our children a Forest School session with  Achieve for All . Our Reception class takes part every Tuesday morning and every other year the group has a half-term block in rotation.

Forest School is an opportunity for your child to access their local woodland area to witness and experience the changes of the environment throughout the year.

Forest School supports the development of healthy and active lifestyles by offering children opportunities for physical activity, freedom and movement, and promoting a sense of well-being. It gives them contact with the natural world and offers them experiences that are unique to outdoors, such as direct contact with the weather and the seasons. Outdoor play also supports children’s problem-solving skills and nurtures their creativity, as well as providing rich opportunities for their developing imagination, inventiveness and resourcefulness.

By regularly accessing the woods the children will increase their knowledge on native animals, insects, trees and plants. They will learn about habitats and appreciate everything that lives and grows in this environment and how it all links together.

They go outside in all weathers. Occasionally high winds do keep us out of the woods, but rain and cold weather do not. It is imperative that your child has the right outdoor clothing to allow this to be a positive experience for them. They need lots of warm layers under their coat. They will need wellington boots and waterproof trousers and a ‘thick, old’ waterproof coat. A thin summer style jacket will not be warm enough for them throughout the autumn and winter season. As the weather gets colder they will also need a woolly hat. Scarves are not needed and can get caught on branches as children play. Your child could wear an ‘all in one’ waterproof if they prefer.
